The Slrog

  • July 8, Sunday--2.5 miles running.

Ugh!--stomach issues are putting a serious crimp in my running plans.  I think I need to cut the milk/cheerios combo out of my diet as it is the only thing I can think of that is giving me serious/pretty much debilitating stomachaches while running.

  • July 5, Thursday--5 miles running.

Grumpy-wumpy, whiny-ass run.  Not a fun one.

The Slrog

  • July 2, Monday--5 miles running.

Today was a great run as I managed to make it up Big Creek's version of Heartbreak Hill without a single stop for breath or rest!  I think my body is finally okay with the elevation up here in the mountains.

As for El Blister Manchado (that is, THE Bloody Blister), it is now pretty much healed and painless.  I am  back to wearing Nikes and will have to forgo being a good shopping Samaritan when it comes to running shoes.  (I am a good, conscientious consumer in many other areas, but running shoes seems to be my--pun intended--Achilles' heel!)

  • Runagogo Round II: Total mileage 173.5 miles (only counting actual runs and backpacking/hiking; not counting cycling, walking, etc).

The Slrog & the Belligerent Blister

  • June 19, Monday--5 miles running.

It looks as if I shall have to be taking a break from running as John and I will be going backpacking in Yosemite next week and my blister refuses to heal (doh! to the self!  repeated friction on an unhealed blister=more blistering and bleeding!).  Instead, I shall be doing some street "hiking" on the steep hill (behind my parent's house) that heads up to Huntington Lake in my flip-flops.

Yippee!  I ran into zero weirdos on the trail today.   I did run into my brother running and the local elementary school PE teacher cycling--much, much better trail companions, if I might say so myself.  Nonetheless, I had my pepper spray with me just in case I ran into another weirdo with his pants unzipped!

The Slrog & a Bloody Shoe

  • June 16, Saturday--3 miles

Today was quite the interesting run!

For about the first mile, every time my left foot hit the ground I winced as the pain from my blister radiated through my body.  Nevertheless, I was determined to continue running and figured that the pain would abate (whichit did after that first mile).

Then as I hit 2.5 miles--running on the old railroad grade--I ran into some weirdo guy with his wolf-dog walking with his pants partway down (sans undies) and some cheesy crop top.  He was walking toward his beater truck which had another two wolf-dogs tied up to it.  Of course, I was a bit freaked out as I wasn't on the main road and he and I were the only humans around for a couple of miles.  I continued running and got to the main road whereupon I called my parents to come pick me up to get me the Jesus y Maria out of there!
When I took off my shoes in the car, I discovered this:

Isn't that lovely?  My blister bled quite a bit, didn't it?  I do believe I am going to swear never again to buy any shoes but Nikes as I've never had this kind of blistering with them.

The Slrog

  • June 14, Thursday--5 miles running.

Today my new shoes felt perfectly comfortable...that is, until I was on my fourth mile and thought I had a pebble stuck in my left sock.  I reached down to pull it out and ripped the skin off of a fresh blister.  Holy moly!  OUCH!  I think I just discovered a new reason why I almost always buy Nikes--I never get blisters in them when I am breaking them in.  These New Balance shoes are cut much higher on the ankle than Nikes and so are causing some lovely blisters.  Whine.

The Slrog

  • June 12, Tuesday--5 miles running.
  • Runagogo Round II: Total mileage 128 miles* (only counting actual runs, not counting cycling, walking, etc).

New_shoes_june_2007_0001_2 It felt as if I had to stop a million times today during my run.  I have taken off way too much time from running.

Two things I absolutely hate:

1) Running too soon after eating.  I swear I couldn't stop wanting to "blow chowder" during my entire run and I could just imagine my deli-cheese sandwich coming up my throat  un-chewed.  I know, gross!

2) I almost hate running in new shoes (see my $29.99 specials to the left) as much as I hate running in flat, worn-out shoes that make my knees ache.  I had to stop running in my previous pair due to knee pains from flat (too many miles) shoes.  Yet, when I get new shoes I spend each run, till they're worn in, thinking about how uncomfortable they feel on my feet.  Ugh!

*Oh dear, it looks like I am either going to have to do doubles (twice a day runs) or longer evening runs if I want to make 200 miles by July 1st.  Not sure if I am up for it!*

The Slrog

  • June 3, Sunday--5 miles running.

If I want to make my goal of 200 miles for Round II of Runagogo (April 1-July 1), I will have to run an average of 2.85 miles a day for the next 27 days.  Definitely doable, therefore it must be done!  (And it would super-easy if I added in all the walking I do around town and with the 'rents, but that'd be cheating--or at least for me it would be.)

Tomorrow I shall be searching for a new pair of running shoes as mine are flat tires and beginning to make my bones ache.  Unfortunately, I am low on the dough so I shan't be shopping at Fleet Feet, but rather looking for some cheapish Nikes.
